CHOOSING AN EXPERT
Based in Cardiff, we offer practical hands on training alongside class room learning delivered by trainers who have been responsible for training our own field employees for many years. Within our team, we have over fifty years’ experience of training and field auditing. In recent years, over 1,000 people have successfully passed through the academy.
Our Instructors’ qualifications are extensive, including NEBOSH, IOSH, CAI Trainer, City & Guilds accreditation, TETRA WAH (Working at Heights) Trainer, BSI registered Auditors and CIEH Professional Trainer. Our Training Academy is a CAI (Confederation of Aerial Industries) accredited training centre and we are Microgeneration Certificate Scheme (MCS) approved installer and a CAI accredited installer.
Core Training
Fibre Optical Installing & Splicing
This four day course covers Health & Safety Induction, Risk Management, Manual Handling, Fibre splicing, Fibre blowing, cable installations, pit work, underground cabling, overhead cabling and Fibre To The Home or Kerb (FTTx). The course covers all of the technical aspects as well as practical hands on training in a purpose built fibre training facility from underground pits to overhead cabling. Essential for anyone in the Fibre Provision Industry.
Solar PV Installer
Our intensive ten day course delivers all of the knowledge required to get started as a Solar PV Installer. The course includes Health & Safety Induction, Asbestos Awareness, Ladder Safety, Working at Heights, Risk Management, Manual Handling, Solar PV product & equipment overview, installations assessments and surveys, roof access and safe working on roofs, roof types, safe working on scaffolding, fitting panels and accessories, testing systems and handover to a qualified electrician, environmental impact and working in restricted spaces. Both practical and technical coaching is covered, including training in and on our purpose built ‘training house’ complete with attic, different roof surfaces at both low and high levels as well as interactive customer soft skills role playing, with feedback. Essential for anyone wishing to undertake Solar PV Installations for consumers or businesses.
Satellite Broadband Installer
This seven day course covers Health & Safety Induction, Asbestos Awareness, Ladder Safety, Working At Heights, Risk Management, Manual Handling, Satellite Broadband product & equipment overview, installations assessments and surveys, roof access and safe working on roofs, fitting & testing dishes and accessories, environmental impact and working in restricted spaces. Both practical and technical coaching, including roof training at height and interactive customer soft skills role playing, with feedback. Essential for anyone wishing to perform Satellite Broadband Installations for consumers or businesses.
CATV, Telco & Broadband Installer
This three week course is broken into 3 stages. Week one focuses on Health & Safety including H&S legislation and responsibilities, Asbestos Awareness, Ladder Safety, Working at Heights, Risk Assessment & Management, Abrasive Wheels and Manual Handling. Week two covers PC Theory, RF theory, Telco theory, DTV & DTV+. Week three covers Broadband installation, external cabling, gas testing and interactive customer soft skills role playing with feedback. The course takes place in a purpose built installation facility and combines practical hands on elements as well as stage testing on theory. It’s aimed at anyone who does CATV, Telco and Broadband Installations for consumers or businesses.
Antenna Installer
This five day course covers Health & Safety Induction, Asbestos Awareness, Ladder Safety, CAI Working at Heights, Risk Management, Manual Handling, product & equipment overview, installations assessments, roof access and safe working on roofs, fitting & testing equipment and accessories, environmental impact and working in restricted spaces. Both practical and technical coaching, including roof training on a ‘training house’. Essential for anyone wishing to perform Antenna Installations for residential consumers or businesses.
Working at Heights (WAH)
This one day course covers basic responsibilities, fall arrest equipment, fall prevention systems and equipment, roof safety and ladder safety techniques. Necessary for anyone working off the ground in any capacity, whether it’s working on ladders or working on a roof.
CAI approved Working at Heights (WAH)
This one day course is approved by CAI (Confederation of Aerial Industries) covers basic responsibilities, fall equipment, fall prevention, roof safety and ladder safety techniques. Necessary for anyone completing Aerial or Satellite dish installations.
NRSWA City & Guilds (New Roads & Street Works Act)
This one day City & Guilds course covers legislation, risks & risk assessments, hazards and control measures using practical examples and some role playing. Required by anyone who may need to work in or alongside public highways.
Asbestos Skills
This one day course covers legislation, asbestos awareness, identification of asbestos, actions on discovery, PPE & RPE. Recommended for anyone working inside premises to undertake work with unlicensed asbestos products.
Asbestos Awareness
This half day course covers basic responsibilities and legislation and actions on discovery. Necessary for anyone working inside customer or business premises.
NPS – Focusing on the Customer
This one day course covers the importance of customer satisfaction using the NPS (Net Promoter Score) as a measurement. The course looks at customer influencers and discovers what makes a customer happy and also how to ‘turn the customer around’. Based in our ‘training house’ the course is primarily interactive and involves role playing with feedback sessions. It’s aimed at engineers who have direct contact with a customer in their home.
Health & Safety Induction
This one day course covers basic responsibilities, legislation, risks & hazards, PPE & accidents. It’s aimed at giving a basic Health Safety overview and is suitable for anyone.
First Aid
This one day course covers legislation, risks & risk assessments, hazards and control measures using practical examples and some role playing. Aimed at anyone who wants to be a registered First Aider or needs a good basic Emergency First Aid overview.
Safe Use of Ladders
This half day course covers safe working with ladders, ladder transportation, inspection and ladder safety accessories. Essential for anyone who works on and/or with ladders.
Manual Handling
This half day course covers legislation, risks & risk assessments, hazards and accidents. It’s aimed at anyone who has to handle or lift items.
Risk Management
This half day course covers legislation, risks & risk assessments, hazards and control measures using practical examples and some role playing. Necessary for anyone required to assess risk in their normal course of work.
Abrasive Wheel
This half day course covers legislation, risk & safe handling, PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) & RPE (Respiratory Protective Equipment), storage, testing & inspection. Essential for anyone using a powered cutting device for cutting and/or grinding metal, brick, concrete or stone.
Nail Gun
This half day course covers safe handling of nail guns, risks & risk assessments, hazards and control measures. Aimed at anyone who uses a gas operated nail gun in the normal course of their work and is especially suitable for Carpenters, Flooring Installers and Infrastructure engineers.
TRAINING HOUSE
Our Training Academy is situated just outside Cardiff with easy access to M4/M5/M50. The facilities include class rooms with the latest IT facilities. We can also offer specific training facilities such as our purpose built ‘training house’ which can be use for solar PV, ladder, roof and confined space practical training.
You can hire our facilities to deliver your own training using our facilities or we are happy to create bespoke courses to suit your needs combining any of our standard training course components. We are also happy to deliver training programmes in your own premises.
